How a ‘Space’ plan helped this Master bedroom
3 ways a ‘Space’ plan added room to this bedroom (without knocking any walls!)
1. Sliding wardrobe doors were changed to bifolds
Sliding doors meant you could only access half the space at a time, which was especially awkward with the cupboard being deeper than average… it made it extremely dark and difficult to find things!
Switching to standard doors would have swung too far into the room & been impractical with the bedside table beside it. Bifolds are practical, discreet, and are an added feature which helps this room to stand out as the MASTER.
2. The new wardrobe storage options were tapped into
Being a deeper wardrobe (it’s like a semi-walk-in!), the new doors also mean that the full width and depth of the space can be accessed at any time which has added to the storage possibilities inside!
With no other space in the main room to add bulky storage, drawers have been added inside the wardrobe, as well as still leaving ample long and short hanging space! The depth of the side walls has also been utilised as shoe, belt and tie storage. Winner winner!
3. A headboard was abandoned in favour of panelling
The owners original padded headboard would have kicked the bed forward enough to impede on the travel path to the window-side of the bed, making the flow around the room awkward and uncomfortable.
By ditching the headboard in favour of room-wide panelling, we have saved a good 25cm of space, allowing for great flow. There is still a ‘headboard’ though now it has impact and adds yet another statement feature to this master bedroom. BONUS bonus, by stretching the panel from wall to wall, we have the added illusion of extra width!
